Retired numbers

A retired number is a jersey number taken out of circulation by a team as a way of honoring a former player who wore that number. Jokerit honors the careers of seven players by retiring their numbers.
Waltteri Immonen was the first player to have his number #24 hanging from the ceiling of Hartwall Arena. Immonen had his number retired immediately after his last match, at the end of his career on August 31st, 1999. The ceremony was held during a celebration game between Jokerit and the Finnish national team.
Esa Tikkanen was respected by retiring his #5 before a Finnish Elite League match against Ilves on September 13th, 2001. Otakar Janecky had his legendary #91 retired on November 7th, 2004, in a match against TPS. Next in turn was Jari Kurri with his #17 on October 27th, 2007. Petri Varis had his #23 retired on December 13th, 2013, during a match against TPS.
The latest retired numbers are Henry Leppä #15 and Timo Turunen #17, both players from the early years of Jokerit. The celebration was held on 5th of March 2014 during a home game against Pelicans.
